Standing still is no longer an option these days, everyone has activities planned every day. All these activities are necessary to keep things in order, because if you no longer put energy into your work, family, friends or hobbies, there is only one conclusion you can draw. Sooner or later things will go wrong. If you want to continue to participate in today's society, “keeping everything the same” is impossible, because if you sit back, the competition will pass you by. The trick is to continuously change and innovate. In this blog we will go through 9 steps that can contribute to a successful change process!

Change Management and 9 Steps for a Successful Change Process

1. What is your DNA? Your passion? Why do you do what you do? Sinek's Golden Circle is a nice theory to map this out for your organization. When you know who you are, you also know what sets you apart from the rest.

2. Where do you want to go? In other words, “the dot on the horizon”. That sounds vague, but that is exactly the intention. That dot is a kind of indicator, bait and binder in one. You indicate “Where do you all want to go”?

3. What are the core values of your organization? The positioning of the organization must be clear. Is customer-friendly and customer-oriented the same? They are both good core values, but there is a difference in interpretation.

4. Come up with a motto. This can be a general motto, but you can also come up with a (sub) motto. For example, do you want employees to no longer throw paper in the waste bin, but in the paper bin? Then you could hang a sign above the paper bin with the text “Paper? Give that here." If you then make this sign stand out by giving it some color, you make employees more aware.

5. Have conversations: have a chat with your employees every now and then, practice shows that this is appreciated.

6. Do you have a moment of success? Celebrate these successes with your employees. For example, provide cake after a large assignment has been completed.

7. Once you have chosen a course, stick to it. This shows your employees that what you say you also do. However, if it turns out that your course is not paying off, you will of course choose a different direction, but never without clearly informing your employees about this.

8. They say that a day without laughter is a day wasted. Make sure you are positive about the change, because if you are enthusiastic and positive, your employees will be too. Do you notice that there are complaints in the workplace? Try to solve this with positivity and humor.

9. As a final step, it is extremely important that you also give your employees the tools to carry out the change process. Do they need to have certain resources? Then make sure you have those resources at home. Do they need to acquire new knowledge? Then train your employees.

The customer as the starting point

Successful sales begin with a deep understanding of your customer. Not just what they want to buy, but why they want to buy it. What problem are they solving? What ambition drives them? By asking these questions, you shift from product-oriented to solution-oriented selling. And that is exactly what customers are waiting for: an advisor who thinks along with them, not someone who prints.

Therefore, invest time in your preparation. Research your client's industry, read their annual report, and check their website and social media. The better prepared you are, the more relevant your questions and the stronger your position in the conversation. Clients notice the difference between a salesperson who has done their homework and someone making a cold call with a standard pitch.
