In the podcast Smart Entrepreneurs Trainer Pieter Willemse speaks with Edwin Provoost of Future Workforce about how companies can use technology to reduce repetitive work and give employees more time for valuable tasks such as customer contact, creativity and growth.
Less repetitive work, more value
Many organizations still have processes that are manual and time-consuming. Consider:
- processing documents
- administrative tasks
- answering emails
- entering data into systems
Automation and AI allow technology to partially take over these tasks. The result: employees have more freedom to focus on work that people are truly good at.
As Edwin sums it up:
"Technology shouldn't be the center of attention. People should be the center. Automation helps people free up time for work that adds value."
The difference between automation and AI
The term AI is often used as a collective term, but there are important differences.
Automation
Technology that takes over repetitive tasks from people, for example with Robotic Process Automation (RPA).
Artificial Intelligence
Systems that analyze large amounts of data and recognize patterns, for example to make predictions.
Generative AI
Tools like ChatGPT or Copilot that can generate new content, such as emails, reports or documents.
Together, these technologies enable organizations to work smarter and more efficiently.
What does this mean for sales?
AI also has a major impact on sales organizations.
Many sales professionals spend a significant portion of their time on administration, CRM updates, and email writing. AI and automation can accelerate or automate many of these tasks.
Research shows that this allows sales to spend up to 25% more time on customer contact and sales.
And that is precisely where its real value lies.
The human being remains central
Despite all technological developments, one thing remains clear: technology does not replace humans.
In fact, the more tasks are automated, the more important human skills become, such as:
- creativity
- empathy
- advisory skills
- building trust
Or as Edwin says:
AI is a powerful assistant. But ultimately, humans make the difference.
